Susannah Bruder began studying Yoga with Antonio Sanchez at San Francisco Yoga Studio, in 1986. Teaching full time since 1994 in San Francisco and beyond, Susannah believes and teaches that equanimity and radiant health come from regular Yoga practice. Susannah loves teaching, and 2024 will mark 30 years of teaching Yoga.
She helps students build depth of practice using relevant elements from systems she studies such as Shadow Yoga, Hatha, Iyengar, Astanga, the Yoga Challenge, and Vedic texts. Three decades of practical experience are the foundation of Susannah’s teaching.
Susannah offered classes, workshops and two teacher trainings at her school, Yogasita, in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood. ‘Sita’ a Sanskrit word, means “a furrow for planting seeds”. At the end of 2013, as she closed Yogasita, she was voted Best Yoga Instructor, in the SF Bay Guardian’s annual series, The Best of the Bay. She has taught in-house classes for local businesses, and private lessons for individuals, families and small groups, since 2014. Susannah teaches lessons in person and on Zoom.
At the start of her teaching path, known as Susie, she was a prominent teacher at both Piedmont Yoga Studio, in Oakland, and Sanchez Street Studio, in San Francisco. For over 7 years, she taught 6 weekly classes at each location, and popular weekend workshops. Between 1997 and 2010, she led many retreats to Oz Farm, in Point Arena, CA, and in various locations in Baja, Mexico.
Susannah taught at Studio 610, The Mindful Body, Suginami Aikikai, Rhythm n’ Motion, Bernopoly, and Gold’s Gym in San Francisco, and The Temescal Arts Center and Mountain Yoga, in Oakland. She offered two Teacher Trainings at Yogasita, one at Sanchez Street Studio, and co-taught a Teacher Training at Diablo Yoga, Danville. She briefly danced with the Yoga Garden Dancers, Berkeley, CA, which performed at the Julia Morgan Theater and the Cowell Theater.
Prior to teaching full time, Susannah ran a Chiropractic Rehabilitative Exercise Program, integrating Yoga with physical therapy, at Mission District Chiropractors in San Francisco. She also worked in the SF fashion industry, and had her own flower business.
A nature lover and runner since age 10, Susannah enjoys trails and beaches, in California and the West with friends, with husband Brad, and their beautiful retriever, Luna. Susannah gratefully acknowledges her many luminous students as the greatest gifts of her practice!
